Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

SOMEHOW

SOMEHOW

A blurry high school at night

When all appears to be going in a good way, something always seems to come along to disrupt that momentum. Obstacles show up at every turn, trying to dissuade us from starting a new life elsewhere. Yet, I am determined for us to continue on this road and see where it takes us.

Today's obstacles started with the thoughtless email from the property manager in Houston, saying that an 'annoying' neighbour did not justify breaking the lease and that 'I do agree that it is best that you move-out due to your unhappiness, but fees will not be waived.' The outrageous fees that the apartment complex is charging to break this lease. Four months' worth of rent.

'I simply do not have those funds', I tried to explain to the assistant manager when I went to the leasing office after receiving the email from the other manager. She didn't care. All the property wants is money. All I want is to leave this place. She then went on to explain a similar situation with another resident who couldn't pay when he broke his lease. This resulted in the amount due going to collections. I stood there in the middle of the leasing office trying to get somewhere with this situation. Trying to explain that the issue with the neighbour was not 'annoying', rather abusive. Still, she did not care. Even though we have been here since 2015, except for the time we moved to Cedar Park due to the custody lawsuit, and have never missed or been late with any of our rent payments.

Somehow, I thought. Somehow, I will find a way to make this work. Both my son and I need this change.

The other obstacle happened tonight as we were returning from the storage unit. The sound of a fan coming on from somewhere under the minivan's hood. I did hear the sound earlier today, but dismissed it and hoped it wouldn't be an issue. But when I heard it again tonight, along with seeing the spike in the temperature on the dashboard, I had to take this seriously. As soon as we parked, I sent a text to the mobile car guy to see what this could be. It appears to be the fan control module. Another new car issue to deal with at the most inconvenient time. But not as inconvenient as it coming up on a long drive.

Life seems to be quite the challenge lately. The continued unemployment, the ever-growing list of email rejections from job applications, one fee after another, growing moving costs, and then more car issues.

These life obstacles are definitely more of a challenge when you have to deal with them on your own. As a single mother. Yet, I am not willing to let life defeat me that easily. Somehow, I will make this work.
