LIKE A SATURDAY
The days seem to blend into each other. One indistinguishable from the next. Such is the case when you are unemployed and have no definitive hours to work. To clock in and out of a typical office job.
In my case, there is no shortage of work to be done before the month's end. The sorting of all of our belongings to see which items go to storage and which travel with us. Going through all of our clothes, with the focus being on winter clothing. The ones we bought when we travelled to Svalbard and used only for that one excursion. The winters in Texas did not justify an entire wardrobe of warm clothing. I can recall only once that we needed a parka, gloves, and a hat.
Many things in the kitchen will be packed away in boxes and taken to our storage unit. We have one now, but there might be a need for another smaller unit. However, everything in the pantry will need to go with us. Including the many bottles and bags of spices we've accumulated from our trips to the Savory Spice Shop. I will miss going to that shop. The place where I worked for a brief time and got to photograph shortly after they opened for business. I am certain my son will miss tasting all of the spices from the tester bottles. We will have to resort to online purchases. Baking pans and some of my All Clad pots and pans will also go with us. At the moment, it's still unclear how much we will be able to take.
Yet, in the midst of all this chaos, I make sure to take the time for something I enjoy. Reading for an hour in the morning. Photographing a new yarn that will be my next project. And then taking a few hours throughout the day to knit.
With my son home from school today for the start of his five-day weekend, it felt more like a Saturday. Not a Thursday. There was no early breakfast right before school. No hurrying him to get out the door to try to make it to class on time. Just a laid-back day like our usual weekends, where we sit outside for a late breakfast and enjoy cappuccinos.
